I’va always tried to take shots with both film and digital cameras in almost total darkness, but mostly, my attempts have not come out very good. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my technique per se……perhaps it’s just that I haven’t been consistent at it….I get disheartened too quickly!
A few days ago, a very good friend of mine showed me some of her work that she has done in darkness. She has a whole lot of shots that are really good, but I chose one or two to post on this blog for my readers to see.
I think these examples here are excellent in capturing what I have always intended…..the mystery, quiet, brooding, hidden, unknown feelings that images in darkness can show…..as JRR Tolkien once said about darkness……
“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
It lies behind stars and under hills,
And empty holes it fills…”
