yes, i do believe ive done it again! done what?
grabbed your attention, yet again…..!
seriously though, what i am going to talk about today is actually what the processes were known as, and in some cases, the people involved really thought that it was a part of, or would lead to, the fabled alchemy…the stuff of legends.
of course serious photographers will know what i am talking about by now…alternative process photography.
presently, there are a huge number and variety of processes involved in this genre, but the overall and over-riding effect in your results are unique, and original, as no two prints of the same subject will be the same!
all the processes involve the use of somewhat powerful chemicals, which you have to be very careful when using, but as long as you are careful, the results are immensely satisfying and artistic.
the main processes are cyanotype, dagguerotype, gelatin silver, gum bichromate and lith. i can speak from personal experience here and can say without prejudice that i have tried several of these methods, and not once have i had the misfortune of accidental spills etc….so being careful in the first place is the byword!
i wont go into any more depth here, as there are hundreds of pages on the web that you can access to find out more, but what i can say for sure is that i will be offering for sale some ready-made kits for beginners to try their hands on….these will be ready very soon, so kindly bookmark this site or drop in at least once a week.
till then, read all about it at these sites:
