Why do we journal? I’ll keep this short and sweet: I believe we should journal for self-reflection, so that you can better look back your past self, if and when you feel you need to. You can see how your dreams and goals evolved, how you overcome hardships you were experiencing at the time, how both your successes and your failures built you up to become the person you are today.
There is a quote by the late author Rosamond Lehmann about what you leave behind in this world, and the advice she gives to journal writers:
“Be lenient with yourself. Conceal your worst faults, leave out your most shameful thoughts, actions, and temptations. Give yourself all the good and interesting qualities you want and haven’t got.
