I’m going to let you into another secret of mine! As well as being a complete film freak, I also have another weakness….nostalgia.
And as my childhood was spent in London UK, what else would I hanker for, but those golden days of old London, when virtually every street had it’s own “bobby”, a rather genteel name for a policeman!
And milk was sold in bottles by a milkman who drove around the houses in his battery-powered vehicle called a milk float. Cars were very few and far between; the street where I grew up only had 3 cars, ours and 2 more.
Children used to play in the street, without fear of being kidnapped or abused; we used to go buy “paraffin” at the local corner shop for our heaters (central heating hadn’t arrived and kerosene heaters were the only form of heat, aside of open wood-burning fireplaces); a week’s shopping cost my mother just £5 (that’s about US$7…!).
Anyway, to better indulge in my nostalgia, I have added a new section to the blog, just under that photo of an Olympus 35SP camera on your right. Try it….you may like it, but don’t be surprised if you catch the disease, too!
