Some people dream of owning a Ferrari, or a Lamborghini, or a Rolls Royce.
I’ve always dreamt of owning and using one of the best rangefinders ver made, even better than the present day Leica M9, the Contax G2.
It’s not that I have never had the cash for one. You know the scenario; when you have cash, a 1001 other things pop up in your mind that you want to spend your money on. So it is with me….I always go and spend my cash on exactly the things that I don’t really need!
But last week, I finally put my hard-earned money to good use and bought myself a Contax G2. Yes, I know, it goes against one of my main rants in a camera, which is reliance on battery power.
As readers will know I much prefer a camera that, if worse comes to worse, will carry on taking shots when others driven by batteries have given up the ghost. I don’t mind electronics in my camera, so long as there is a full manual facility.
The Contax doesn’t have that, but ok, it more than makes up for it by sheer brilliance.
I will let you have a report on how I got on with it soon. Meantime, let me take a walk downtown and burn up all those rolls of T Max in my pocket!
