Yesterday I was in an upbeat moment….I’d just remembered a couple songs I’d heard in a bar in Vancouver here….songs that took me way back to when I lived in England as a student.
I was in a euphoric mood….you know the feeling…everything’s looking up, nothing can get you down sort of feeling. And then, out of the blue, as I’d been listening to some old Motown favourites on Youtube, I made the fatal mistake of asking my son….if he’d heard of The Temptations…or Diana Ross…..or (and this was as low as you could get) even Tom Jones.
And you know what he said? I’ll tell you what he said. He said “No, never heard of any of them”, and walked away. Granted he’s 20 years old, but what the heck, man…..don’t kids these days know anything? I just shudder to think what he’d say if I’d asked him who Jim Reeves or Gene Pitney were!
Hearing his answer, I just looked at him, or where he’d stood a few seconds ago (like kids these days, they never hang around for long when you talk to them…usually a single syllable answer and off they go…), shook my head, and sloped off in my lounge-lizard slippers, to my study, to mope the day away.
Someone, somewhere, please tell me I’m not that old…..
