The 5 best digicams you can buy!

I suppose it’s only natural that this being a blog about cameras, readers should ask about the best ones they can buy.

That kind of query comes in virtually every single day…but what makes it a little difficult, but nonetheless exciting, is that these queries are for both digital AND film cameras.

And not only that….added to this very often are prerequisites about money constraints and how much buyers wish to spend. So now you begin to see the problem!

Anyway, always happy to help my fellow enthusiasts, so today I’m going to let you have my list of the 5 best digital cameras you can buy. This list is NOT going to be thorough discussion of the virtues or vices of each and every model….that would be too boring, and I’m the first to put an emphasis on my readers’ valuable time.

Second, I have kept a constant look out for total spend, weight, size etc as well, so what we have here are cameras that are light, very portable, some even pocketable and most important, at prices that are affordable in these days of economic recessions and what-not.

Here we go, in no particular order:

Sony Cybershot DSC RX 100

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 has an enormous sized 1-inch image sensor, difficult to find in a point-and-shoot body, delivering close-to-SLR-quality images from a camera you can fit in your pocket. Not cheap, but, wanna take good shots or not?

Size: 2.4 x 4 x 1.4 inches

Weight: 8.5oz

Megapixels:         20                             Price: around $650

Canon PowerShot Elph 330 HS

Canon PowerShot Elph 330 HS

Of all the digicams around, this one I like a lot! It’s super-slim, fits in your hand like a glove, has film-star looks and best of all, has performance to match. What more could you want?

Well, it’s got a pin-sharp lens, high quality ISO bandwidth, wi-fi, 10x zoom and works with  AA batteries, too, so you can chuck any old AA batteries in it if your ni-cads run out.

Size: 2.2 x 3.8 x 0.9 inches

Weight: 5 oz

Megapixels:         12                           Price: around $200

Olympus Stylus XZ 2

Olympus Stylus XZ-2

Ok, so the Olympus Stylus is edging towards the pricier mark, but it does have specifications that just cannot be found in other compacts.

Size: 4.5 x 2.6 x 1.9 inches

Weight: 12 oz

Megapixels:         12                           Price: around $550

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20 / TZ30

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20

An excellent all-rounder is this Lumix. With a great 20x zoom, plus other features, this camera gives you more than a good run for the money.

Size: 4.1 x 2.3 x 1.1 inches

Weight: 0.5oz

Megapixels:         14                           Price: around $300

Canon PowerShot G15

Canon PowerShot G15

What struck me with this camera, aside of other technicalities, is the huge number of shots you can take with one charge of the batteries….770 photos! That can be a great thing when you’re on a shoot and can’t carry extra batteries, etc.

As well, it is a well-built camera, with all controls to hand and which produces results as good as some bigger and bulkier DSLRs.

Size: 4.2 x 3 x 1.6 inches

Weight: 11oz

Megapixels:         12                           Price: around $300

There we have it…the best 5 digital cameras you can buy, without breaking the Bank!

These will be in stock at the Filmcamera999 shop very soon, too.
