The Nikon SLR was well-known as being a thoroughly solid and dependable camera.
With it’s all metal body, the joke was that you could even use it as a weapon against any would-be muggers around town!
And in this case, the Nikon reputation for dependability passed the most stringest test ever…stopping a deadly bullet and preventing it killing the owner holding the camera…..
The camera, a Nikon F, was being used by Don McCullin in Prey Veng, just east of Phnom Penh, Vietnam, when his group were ambushed by rebel forces. The bullet was from an AK47, and was aimed directly at his heart, but was intercepted by the camera.
