There are loads and loads of film cameras that come under the miniature label…Rollei 35, Olympus Pen, Minox etc are just some of them.
But out of all of these, I always keep coming back to the Olympus XA…why…read on!
First of all, amongst the miniatures, this one is the only one that has a rangefinder built-in. That itself is a remarkable feature, and to have included it in a such a small camera required the whole camera, including the lens system, to be resigned from scratch totally.
Then there are the other features such as the superb f2.8 Zuiko 6 element lens, an ingenious sliding cover that hermetically seals the whole front of the camera when not in use….no lens cap needed, a backlight compensation function which allows you to shoot into the light without fear of over-exposing and so on.
What is more the battery life is stupendous..the 2 button cells last typically 5 to 8 years!
That’s the techie blurb, but what about the results? No need to worry….the results are absolutely superb, too…very sharp and contrasty….see some examples below.
I have one of mine for sale here….
If you want a camera that you can take anywhere, and carry in your pocket or handbag, and that will perform as well, and in some cases even better than digital cameras, the Olympus XA is for you!
